HI = Hearing Impaired, OC = Orthopedically Challenged, VI = Visually Impaired, ID = Intellectual Disability. The PwBD seats (HI/OC/VI/ID) are horizontal: they sit inside the SC/ST/OBC/EWS/UR numbers of each State, not on top of them. Figures are copied from the official advertisement dated 25.09.2026; the Bank says they are provisional and may vary according to its actual requirement, and that EWS vacancies are tentative.

Karnataka has the most seats (581), followed by Uttar Pradesh (409), Tamil Nadu (391), Andhra Pradesh (247) and Kerala (240). Several smaller States and UTs have fewer than ten seats, some with no reserved seat in a category. You can opt for one State only, and the merit list is prepared State-wise, so check the seats for your category and the local language before choosing a State.

Category Application fee / intimation charges (incl. GST)
SC/ST/PwBD NIL
All others Rs. 500 (incl. intimation charges)

The fee is non-refundable and is paid online only, by debit card (RuPay/Visa/MasterCard/Maestro), credit card, internet banking, IMPS, cash card or mobile wallet. An application without a successful fee payment is not treated as valid. Take a printout of the e-receipt and the application form.

How the merit list is made

  1. A State-wise merit list is prepared in descending order of marks/percentage in the 12th Std (HSC/10+2) or Diploma examination.
  2. Minimum qualifying marks: 60% (55% for SC/ST/PwBD). Fractions are ignored: 59.99% is below 60% and 54.99% is below 55%.
  3. Percentage = total marks in all subjects of all semesters/years ÷ aggregate maximum marks × 100. CGPA/OGPA must be converted to a percentage, supported by the authority's conversion certificate.
  4. Tie: candidates with the same percentage are ranked by age in descending order (the older candidate first).
  5. The merit list uses only the information you submit online; a discrepancy found at document verification disqualifies the application summarily.

Final selection is subject to

  • Verification of eligibility and of the information in the online application.
  • Qualifying the test of local language for the opted State, where applicable (held during document verification).
  • Being declared medically fit as per the Bank's requirement.

Selected candidates receive a digital apprenticeship contract on the NATS portal and must accept it within the stipulated time. No one is engaged until the contract is approved on NATS. A State-category wise wait list is kept for one year.

  1. Register on the official NATS apprenticeship portal (nats.education.gov.in) and complete your profile 100%. Note the Enrollment ID.
  2. Go to Canara Bank → Careers → Recruitment → Engagement of Graduate Apprentices in Canara Bank under Apprentices Act, 1961 for FY 2026-27, and open the official “Apply Online” link.
  3. Click “Click Here for New Registration”, enter your basic details and the NATS Enrollment ID, and note the provisional registration number and password.
  4. Upload your photograph (20–50 KB), signature (10–20 KB), left thumb impression (20–50 KB) and handwritten declaration (50–100 KB) in JPG/JPEG. The signature and declaration must not be in capital letters, and the declaration must be in English in your own handwriting.
  5. Choose one State and give your order of preference for its districts.
  6. Pay the fee online if applicable, then click Final Submit. No changes are allowed after final submission.
  7. Print the system-generated application form and e-receipt and keep them with your registration number and password.

Handwritten declaration text (write it in English, in your own handwriting, not in capital letters):

“I, _______ (Name of the candidate), hereby declare that all the information submitted by me in the application form is correct, true and valid. I will present the supporting documents as and when required.”

Apply between 01.10.2026 and 17.10.2026. No other mode of application is accepted. Submit only one application; if there are several, only the latest valid completed application is kept.

Canara Bank Apprentice 2026 Overview

Canara Bank has invited online applications from eligible Indian citizens for 3,500 Graduate Apprentice training seats for FY 2026-27. Apprentices receive on-the-job training at select branches for 12 months and are paid a monthly stipend of Rs. 16,650. There is no conventional written examination: the Bank prepares a state-wise merit list from marks in the 12th Standard (HSC/10+2) or Diploma examination. A graduation degree is still compulsory, and it must have been passed between 1 January 2023 and 1 September 2026.

Candidates can opt for training seats in only one State. Inside that State, you give an order of preference for all districts, but allotment is need-based and the Bank can place you in any district of the selected State.

What Changed / Why This Page Matters

Applications are open for 3,500 Canara Bank Graduate Apprentice training seats for FY 2026-27. Eligible graduates must first complete their NATS apprenticeship profile and can then apply through the Canara Bank recruitment link until 17 October 2026. Selection is merit-based; no written examination is prescribed.

Who Should Apply / Who Should Not

Who should consider applying Who should be cautious / may be ineligible
Graduate who passed between 1 Jan 2023 and 1 Sep 2026 Candidate whose graduation falls outside the notified date window
Age 20–28 as on 1 Sep 2026, or eligible under relaxation Candidate outside age rules without valid relaxation
Candidate able to complete NATS registration and Bank application Candidate unable to complete mandatory NATS profile/enrollment
Candidate comfortable with 12-month apprenticeship rather than permanent employment Candidate seeking a guaranteed permanent Canara Bank post
Candidate meeting 12th/Diploma merit threshold Candidate below the notified minimum merit marks
Candidate meeting local-language requirement for selected state Candidate unable to satisfy local-language proof/test
Candidate without disqualifying prior apprenticeship / one-year-plus work experience after qualification Candidate covered by the notification’s prior apprenticeship/work-experience ineligibility clauses

Graduation Passing-Date Requirement

This is the condition most likely to make an otherwise eligible graduate ineligible. The advertisement says candidates must have passed their graduation not earlier than 01.01.2023 and not later than 01.09.2026 (both days inclusive). If your degree result was declared before 1 January 2023, you cannot apply, however good your 12th marks are. If your result comes after 1 September 2026, you also cannot apply. At engagement you must produce a proper document from your Board/University showing that the result was declared on or before the cut-off date.

Previous Apprenticeship / Work Experience Restrictions

The advertisement lists these candidates as not eligible:

  • Candidates who have already undergone apprenticeship training with Canara Bank or any other organization.
  • Candidates currently pursuing apprenticeship training under the Apprentices Act, 1961.
  • Candidates whose apprenticeship training was terminated midway due to their own fault.
  • Candidates who have undergone training, or have job experience of one year or more, after completing their educational qualification.
  • Ex-servicemen and disabled ex-servicemen. They are not engaged as apprentices, and there is no ex-servicemen reservation in this engagement.

Local Language Test

Each State has a specified local language (shown in the seat table in the Vacancy Details tab). If your 10th or 12th standard marksheet or certificate shows that you studied the local language of the State you opted for, you do not take the local language test. Everyone else takes the test during document verification. Candidates who fail the test are not engaged as apprentices, even if their merit rank is high. Check your State’s language before you choose it.

Stipend & Training Period

Item Detail (as per advertisement)
Training period 12 months
Monthly stipend Rs. 16,650 (including subsidy amount, if any, by Govt. of India)
Paid by Canara Bank Rs. 10,500 per month into the apprentice’s account
Government share (DBT) Rs. 6,150 per month, credited directly to the apprentice’s bank account
Leave 1 casual leave per completed month, 12 in a year, not more than 4 at a time; no other leave
Certificate NATS joint certification after completing the training

The Rs. 16,650 is a stipend, not a salary. Apprentices are not treated as employees of Canara Bank and do not get any benefits available to Bank employees or any other allowances. PF, ESI and Bonus laws do not apply to this engagement. The stipend is paid monthly after adjusting loss of pay, if any.

Documents Required at Engagement

Originals with a self-attested photocopy must be produced at engagement. Without them, the candidate may not be allowed to join.

  • System-generated printout of the online application.
  • Proof of date of birth (birth certificate from a competent authority, or SSLC/Std. X certificate showing the date of birth).
  • Photo identity proof: Passport, Aadhaar, PAN, Voter ID, Driving Licence or another photo ID issued by a statutory authority.
  • Marksheets and certificates from SSC onwards, including semester/year-wise marksheets and the final degree, with proof that the result was declared on or before the cut-off date.
  • Caste certificate in the Government of India format (SC/ST/OBC). OBC certificates must carry the non-creamy layer clause.
  • Income and Asset Certificate (EWS).
  • UDID card and disability certificate from a duly constituted Medical Board (PwBD).
  • Any other document supporting eligibility.

Career Growth & Work Profile

Apprentices receive on-the-job training at select Canara Bank branches as per the course curriculum, during the working hours of the Bank’s clerical cadre. In practice this means exposure to day-to-day branch operations: customer-service processes, banking documentation and workflows, and the general working of a bank office. Overtime is not allowed except with the approval of the Apprenticeship Adviser. Apprentices may not join or form any union.

This is apprenticeship training. The advertisement states that the Bank has no obligation to offer regular employment to apprentices during or after the training, and apprentices are relieved from their training area once the 12 months are completed. The practical gain is a NATS joint certificate and a year of banking-office experience, which can be useful when you later prepare for bank recruitment exams. The certificate does not give you a permanent job at Canara Bank.

Historical Cut-Off / Merit Trends

Canara Bank has not announced a fixed 2026 merit cutoff in advance, and it did not publish a state-wise or category-wise cut-off percentage for the previous FY 2025-26 engagement. That cycle’s official page carries lists of provisionally selected candidates and wait-list releases, not a cut-off table. Final merit for 2026 will depend on the eligible applicant pool in each State and category and on the seats available there. The only fixed numbers are the minimum qualifying marks: 60% in 12th/Diploma (55% for SC/ST/PwBD). Scoring the minimum does not guarantee a seat.

Post-Specific Selection Nuances

  • Merit uses 12th/Diploma marks, not graduation marks. Your graduation percentage does not enter the merit list.
  • Graduation is still mandatory, and it must fall inside the 01.01.2023 to 01.09.2026 passing window.
  • No rounding: 59.99% counts as below 60% and 54.99% counts as below 55%.
  • Percentage method: total marks in all subjects of all semesters/years divided by aggregate maximum marks, multiplied by 100. If you have a CGPA/OGPA, convert it to a percentage and keep the authority’s conversion certificate.
  • Tie-breaker: the older candidate ranks higher.
  • Only one State: you can opt for training seats in one State only.
  • Local language: failing the local language test means you are not engaged.
  • Information you enter is final: the merit list uses only the details in your online application, and any discrepancy found at document verification disqualifies the application.
  • Wait list: a State-category wise wait list is kept for one year from the result or until the next engagement exercise, whichever is earlier.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Applying to Canara Bank without first completing NATS registration/profile.
  • Assuming this is permanent clerical recruitment.
  • Choosing a state without checking its specified local language.
  • Ignoring the graduation pass-date window.
  • Using graduation marks as the merit basis when the notice specifies 12th/Diploma marks.
  • Missing the 60% / 55% merit eligibility threshold stated in the notification.
  • Submitting incorrect personal details or different spelling than certificates.
  • Uploading a capital-letter signature or invalid handwritten declaration.
  • Waiting until 17 October and risking portal congestion.
  • Submitting multiple applications unnecessarily.

Candidate Pathway: Application → Merit → DV → Training

NATS Registration → 100% Complete Profile → Canara Application → State-Wise Merit → Shortlisting → Document Verification → Local-Language Test (if applicable) → Medical Fitness → Digital Apprenticeship Contract → 12-Month Training → NATS Joint Certification / Wait-List Lifecycle

The headline seat count is the same, but the category split has shifted slightly. The FY 2025-26 totals were SC 557, ST 227, OBC 845, EWS 337, UR 1,534; the FY 2026-27 totals are SC 553, ST 226, OBC 845, EWS 335, UR 1,541. The biggest practical change is the higher Government share of the stipend.
