Reservation is vertical (SC 16%, ST 20%, OBC, EWS 10%) with horizontal reservation inside each category for ex-servicemen (10%), Home Guards (15%) and, in non-SAF posts only, women (35%). Reservation applies only to Madhya Pradesh domicile candidates. There is no PwD reservation: Police has been exempted from it by a 1995 State order. Police HQ may reduce or increase the number of posts.

Stage 1 – Online written test (MPESB)
100 MCQs in Hindi, 100 marks, 2 hours, +1 per correct answer, no negative marking. Candidates in the priority groups listed in the rulebook get 5% extra marks on their written score.
Shortlisting for Stage 2
Seven times the advertised posts in each vertical category are called for the PET on the basis of the cut-off percentile. All candidates at the cut-off percentile are called even if the number exceeds seven times. No separate cut-off is fixed for horizontal categories, and one cut-off percentile covers SAF and non-SAF.
Stage 2 – Physical Proficiency Test (Police Department)
100 marks: 800 m run (40), long jump (30) and shot put (30). You need at least 30 marks out of 100. The PET date given by the selection committee will not be changed.

Final merit
- Written test marks and PET marks are added to make the final merit list. Only candidates who reach the PET minimum are considered.
- Unreserved posts are filled first on merit (reserved-category candidates who did not use any relaxation can be selected against them), then horizontal reservation, then separate lists for each reserved category.
- All original documents are verified after the PET. A candidate found ineligible at document verification is not selected even after clearing the written test and PET.
- Medical examination by the district medical board, and character verification.
- Ties: proportional marks first, then age (older first). A 15% wait list is kept.

MP Police Constable Recruitment 2026 Overview
MPESB is conducting a direct recruitment test for 7,500 Constable (General Duty) posts under Police Headquarters, Madhya Pradesh, as per Police HQ letter dated 30.07.2026. Selection has two stages: an online written test conducted by MPESB, followed by a Physical Proficiency Test (PET) and document verification conducted by the Police Department. The final merit list adds the marks of both stages. The posts are Class III (executive) posts in the pay scale Rs. 19,500–62,000.
Male and female candidates can apply, but the 700 SAF posts are for male candidates only. Women are considered only for the 6,800 non-SAF posts, where 35% of each category is reserved for women.
Exam Pattern
| Part (as per rulebook) | Marks |
|---|---|
| General Knowledge and Reasoning | 40 |
| Intellectual Ability and Mental Aptitude | 30 |
| Science and Simple Arithmetic | 30 |
| Total (100 MCQs, 2 hours) | 100 |
The written test is an online, objective (MCQ) paper in Hindi. Each correct answer earns 1 mark and there is no negative marking for wrong or unattempted questions. The rulebook says all questions are at the level of Class 8 of the MP Board of Secondary Education. The exam runs in two shifts from 19 November 2026: reporting 8:00–9:00 AM for the 10:00 AM–12:00 noon shift, and 1:00–2:00 PM for the 3:00–5:00 PM shift. Entry closes at the reporting time. Aadhaar registration is compulsory and biometric verification is done at entry, so keep Aadhaar biometrics unlocked.
Physical Proficiency Test (PET) – 100 Marks
Candidates are called to the PET on the basis of the written-test cut-off percentile, at seven times the advertised posts in each vertical category. Everyone who scores the same percentile as the last candidate in that 7x list is also called. One cut-off percentile is fixed for SAF and non-SAF together. The PET carries 100 marks, and you must score at least 30 of them.
| Event | Max marks | Men – full marks | Women – full marks |
|---|---|---|---|
| 800 m run (1 attempt) | 40 | under 124.2 seconds | under 176 seconds |
| Long jump (3 attempts) | 30 | more than 5.57 m | more than 4.36 m |
| Shot put (3 attempts) | 30 | more than 8.76 m (7.26 kg shot) | more than 7.20 m (4 kg shot) |
Marks are given on a graded scale (Schedule One of the rulebook). A man who takes more than 198.3 seconds for the 800 m, jumps under 2.96 m or throws under 3.83 m scores 0 in that event. For women, the zero-mark limits are more than 261.8 seconds, under 2.04 m and under 2.85 m. Home Guard and ex-servicemen candidates are marked on a separate, relaxed scale given in the rulebook. Transgender candidates follow the male or female standard as shown in their Certificate of Identity.
Physical Standards (Measurement)
SAF posts (men only):
| Category | Height | Chest (unexpanded / expanded) |
|---|---|---|
| Unreserved, OBC | 168 cm | 79 / 84 cm |
| Gorkha, Garhwali, Kumaoni | 157 cm | 79 / 84 cm |
| Maratha, SC, ST | 165 cm | 79 / 84 cm |
Non-SAF posts:
| Category | Men – height | Men – chest | Women – height |
|---|---|---|---|
| Unreserved, SC, OBC | 168 cm | 81 / 86 cm | 155 cm |
| ST | 160 cm | 76 / 81 cm | 155 cm |
Chest expansion must be at least 5 cm, and there is no chest measurement for women. No relaxation in physical standards is allowed at any level. At the medical stage, the district medical board also checks eyesight: without glasses, at least 6/9 in one eye and 6/12 in the other, with no eye disease and normal colour vision. Knock-knee, flat foot and any disability disqualify. If you are close to the height or chest limit, measure yourself accurately before you pay the fee.
Salary and Benefits
The pay scale for Constable (GD) is Rs. 19,500–62,000. Under the MP General Administration Department circular dated 12 December 2019, a newly appointed constable receives a stipend of 70% of the minimum of the pay scale in the first year, 80% in the second year and 90% in the third year. Other allowances are paid as approved by the State Government from time to time. Appointment is on three years’ probation. The contributory (defined contribution) pension system applies to employees appointed on or after 1 January 2005.
Documents Required
MPESB does not check any certificate when you apply, so your admission to the written test and PET is provisional. Original documents and copies are checked by the Police Department after the PET. All certificates must be dated on or before 6 October 2026.
- Date of birth proof: birth certificate, or a High School or 10+2 marksheet showing the date of birth.
- Educational qualification certificates.
- Caste certificate (SC/ST/OBC non-creamy layer) and EWS certificate in the State format, with Madhya Pradesh domicile, issued by the competent authority.
- Home Guard (Nagar Sainik) service certificate showing at least three years of active service, for reservation or age relaxation.
- Ex-servicemen: Army service certificate with MP domicile.
- Serving employees: service certificate from the employer and a No Objection Certificate.
- Inter-caste marriage award or Vikram Award certificate, if claiming age relaxation.
- Married candidates: birth certificates of their children.
- SC/ST/OBC candidates of MP who want travel fare: a photocopy of the first page of their bank passbook.
Career Growth & Work Profile
A Constable (GD) is the entry rank of the Madhya Pradesh Police. Day-to-day duties typically include law-and-order duty, beat and patrol work, guard and security duty, help in investigation and police-station work, and deployment for crowd control, elections and VIP movement. SAF constables serve in the State’s armed battalions. Selected candidates first undergo the prescribed training, which includes physical and intellectual training and weapons handling. They must pass the training; one more chance is given to a candidate who fails.
The rulebook also sets these service conditions:
- Units are allotted by merit and preference, according to the department’s needs.
- You will not be posted in your home district.
- You must serve at least five years in the allotted unit before you can seek a transfer.
- You may be posted to other branches of the Police Department or other State bodies, such as the Economic Offences Wing or the Special Police Establishment (Lokayukta), inside or outside the State.
The usual next rank is Head Constable. Promotions follow MP Police service rules and departmental processes, which this rulebook does not cover.
Historical Cut-Off Trends
The table below shows the official final merit cut-off of the previous cycle, Police Constable Recruitment Test 2025. MPESB published it with the final result on 9 April 2026. These are combined scores: MPESB merged the written test and PET marks using the Normalised Equi-Percentile (NEP) method. They are for the 87% main part of the posts only (the 13% provisional part is listed separately).
Open seats (final merit cut-off, 2025):
| Category | SAF | Non-SAF |
|---|---|---|
| UR | 140.359020 | 141.718660 |
| OBC | 139.744630 | 140.146030 |
| EWS | 137.847520 | 138.514130 |
| SC | 133.658020 | 133.131340 |
| ST | 131.428920 | 131.837170 |
Women’s seats in non-SAF posts (final merit cut-off, 2025):
| Category | Non-SAF women |
|---|---|
| UR | 120.774240 |
| OBC | 122.345390 |
| EWS | 117.718720 |
| SC | 112.768480 |
| ST | 122.359040 |
In 2025, MPESB received 9,78,059 applications for 7,500 posts. The written test ran from 30 October to 15 December 2025 in 11 cities, and 57,985 candidates qualified for the second stage. The PET was held from 23 February to 14 March 2026, and the final result for 6,525 posts came on 9 April 2026. These are 2025 figures. The 2026 cut-off will depend on this year’s applicants, normalisation and PET scores, so treat the table as a guide to competition, not a target. Home Guard and ex-servicemen sub-categories had much lower cut-offs and several unfilled seats; see the official cut-off PDF for those rows.
Post-Specific Selection Nuances
- SAF vs non-SAF: the 700 SAF posts are for men only. The SAF has its own height table, which includes the 157 cm standard for Gorkha, Garhwali and Kumaoni candidates. Women compete only for the 6,800 non-SAF posts, where 2,380 seats are reserved for women.
- Non-MP candidates: candidates who are not permanent residents (domicile) of Madhya Pradesh can apply only against unreserved open posts. They get no reservation or age relaxation, and their age must not exceed 33 years on 06.10.2026.
- Horizontal reservation: within each vertical category, posts are reserved for ex-servicemen (10%) and Home Guards (15%), and in non-SAF posts for women (35%). A Home Guard must have completed three years of active service by 06.10.2026.
- 87% + 13% split: the rulebook shows 87% of posts as the main part and 13% separately as notional (UR) / provisional (OBC) posts in every reservation table.
- Bonus marks: candidates in eight priority groups listed in the rulebook get 5% extra marks on their written-test score. These include ex-servicemen (other ranks), surplus employees and NCC ‘C’ certificate holders.
- Two-child rule: a candidate with more than two living children, one of whom was born on or after 26 January 2001, is not eligible.
- Ties: candidates with the same percentile are ranked first by proportional marks and then by age, with the older candidate first.
- Wait list: a wait list of 15% of the advertised posts stays valid for one year or until the next exam’s result, whichever comes first.
What Applicants Should Check in the Correction Window
- Category, domicile and any relaxation claim: these must match certificates dated on or before 6 October 2026.
- Cadre preference: the 700 SAF posts are for men only; women are considered only for the 6,800 non-SAF posts.
- Name, date of birth, photo and signature as per your documents.
- Read the rulebook for the physical and medical standards before the exam stage.
Common Mistakes
- Wrong cadre preference: women cannot be considered for the 700 SAF posts.
- Category/domicile mismatch: reservation, age relaxation and the concessional fee apply only to Madhya Pradesh domicile candidates with valid certificates.
- Missing the correction deadline: the rectification window ends on 11 October 2026; MPESB has not announced any extension of the application date (closed 6 October 2026).
- Incorrect documents: all certificates must be dated on or before 6 October 2026 and are checked by the Police Department after the PET.
- Assuming correction can change every field: check on the MPOnline portal which details the correction facility allows you to change before 11 October 2026.
