BPSC notes that the numbers can go up or down if the Education Department amends its requisition. District-wise, subject-wise and category-wise vacancies (including for transgender candidates) are published as separate PDFs on the BPSC website; see Important Links. 40% of posts are to be filled by candidates who passed Matric or Intermediate from educational institutions in Bihar.

Item Amount
Examination fee (every candidate, all categories) ₹100
Biometric fee (only if Aadhaar number is not entered in the application) ₹200 extra
Bank charges As set by the bank, deducted during online payment

The fee is the same for all categories, as fixed by the General Administration Department resolution of 21.08.2025. Payment is online through the portal (SBI payment gateway), from 25.09.2026 to 25.10.2026. Entering your Aadhaar number and an Aadhaar-linked mobile number is advised: it avoids the biometric fee and an OTP is sent to that mobile at document verification.

The fee is not refunded in any situation, including after cancelling a payment or an application. If you were charged more than once, you can raise a chargeback claim through your bank.

Selection process

  1. Written examination (objective MCQ) for the class group. It may be held in more than one phase depending on the number of candidates.
  2. Provisional merit list prepared by BPSC and sent to the Education Department.
  3. Verification of claims and documents by the Education Department before appointment, then district allotment by the Education Department.

No interview is held. There is no re-evaluation of answer sheets.

Minimum qualifying marks in the written exam

Category Minimum marks
General 40%
BC 36.5%
EBC 34%
SC / ST / Women / PwD 32%

The 32% for women (35% horizontal reservation) and PwD (4% horizontal reservation) applies only to Bihar domicile candidates. Under the Bihar State School Teacher Rules, 2023, the Commission can fix the qualifying marks.

How merit is decided

  • Class 1โ€“5: by marks in Part II (General Studies). Tie: Part I (Language) marks, then age, then name in Devanagari alphabetical order.
  • Class 6โ€“8, 9โ€“10, Special (9โ€“10) and 11โ€“12: by total marks in Part II + Part III. Tie: Part III (subject) marks, then Part I marks, then age, then name in Devanagari alphabetical order.
  • Guest teachers who qualify for Higher Secondary teacher posts get 5 bonus marks per year of service (maximum 25), added only after they reach the minimum qualifying marks. This is subject to the outcome of LPA No. 593/2024 in the Patna High Court.

Priority across class groups

If you are eligible for more than one class group, give your order of priority in the single online application. You are considered for your highest-priority group first; if you qualify there, you are not considered for lower groups. If you do not give any priority, the result is published only for the higher post.

Written exam pattern (objective, as per Advt. No. 15/2026)

Each class group has one paper of 150 questions, 150 marks, 2 hours 30 minutes.

Class group Part I Language (qualifying) Part II General Studies Part III Subject
Class 1โ€“5 30 120 None
Class 6โ€“8 30 40 80
Class 9โ€“10 and Special (9โ€“10) 30 40 80
Class 11โ€“12 30 40 80

  • Part II (General Studies): elementary mathematics, general awareness, general science, Indian national movement and geography. For Class 1โ€“5 it also includes mental ability, social science and environment.
  • Part III (Subject): one subject paper of your choice.

    • Class 9โ€“10: Hindi, Urdu, Sanskrit, English, Science, Mathematics, Physical Education, Music, Social Science, Bangla, Fine Arts, Dance, Maithili, Arabic or Persian (the same list applies to Special School Teacher, Class 9โ€“10).

  • Social Science (Class 6โ€“8 and 9โ€“10): if you choose History in Section I, choose one of Geography, Economics or Political Science in Section II; if you choose Geography in Section I, choose Economics or Political Science in Section II.

Syllabus level

Subject papers follow the SCERT/NCERT syllabus, and the General Studies paper follows the SCERT syllabus, but the level of questions is set by the minimum qualification for that class group. BPSC has not issued a separate detailed TRE 4.0 syllabus in the advertisement.

Marking

  • Each question has five options, A to E. Mark one answer from A to D. If you do not want to answer, you must mark E.
  • Negative marking: 1/3 mark is deducted for every wrong answer, and also for every question where none of A to E is marked.
  1. One Time Registration (OTR): go to bpsconline.bihar.gov.in and click New User Registration. A valid email ID and mobile number are needed. Candidates who did OTR on the old portal must do it again on the new portal. Only one OTR is allowed.
  2. DigiLocker (optional): after OTR you can link DigiLocker to fetch documents, or press Back to continue on the application portal.
  3. Create your profile in 6 steps: personal information, address, other information, qualifications, experience, then a live photo by webcam and your signature in English and in Hindi (signature image up to 20 KB, 150โ€“220 px wide and 250โ€“320 px high). Tick the declaration and click Submit and Lock Profile.
  4. Pay the fee: open the New Application tab, click Pay Fees for TRE 4.0, accept the terms, choose the post(s)/subject, and pay online. After payment you cannot remove or add a post/subject without cancelling the payment.
  5. Submit the application: click Apply, then Proceed to Application, fill the form and click Submit Application. In the STET field enter your BSEB Unique ID and the result date; for CTET enter the serial number and issue date from the certificate.
  6. Print: from My Account → View → Application Print, download and print two copies. Each page must show the Application Number, Application ID and Bar Code.

Pay the fee by 25.10.2026 and submit the application by 26.10.2026. No hard copy is to be sent to BPSC. Name, parents' names, gender, Aadhaar and date of birth entered in OTR cannot be changed, and an application cannot be edited after submission. If there is a mistake, cancel the application and apply again; the fee is not refunded. If you pay but do not click Final Submit, the application is not complete. BPSC TRE 4.0 2026 Overview

TRE 4.0 is the fourth phase of the Bihar School Teacher Recruitment Examination. It covers school teachers (Vidyalaya Adhyapak) for primary (Class 1โ€“5), middle (Class 6โ€“8), secondary (Class 9โ€“10, including Special School Teachers) and higher secondary (Class 11โ€“12) schools under the Education Department, Government of Bihar. Selection is through one objective written examination for each class group. There is no interview.

A candidate who is eligible for more than one class group submits a single online application and marks an order of priority for the class groups. The result is declared for the highest-priority group in which the candidate qualifies, and the candidature for lower groups lapses. BPSC conducts the exam and publishes the result; district allotment is done by the Education Department.

What Changed

  • An older BPSC exam calendar showed TRE 4.0 with 46,595 vacancies. The current BPSC exam calendar (dated 14.08.2026) lists 32,388.
  • BPSC first published Advt. No. 14/2026 on 18.08.2026 (32,388 posts, application window 01.09.2026 to 30.09.2026).
  • On 22.09.2026 BPSC published Advt. No. 15/2026, which cancels Advt. No. 14/2026 and opens a new application window from 25.09.2026 to 26.10.2026.
  • On 29.09.2026 an Important Notice-cum-Corrigendum added 493 Class 9โ€“10 posts (Bangla, Fine Arts, Dance, Maithili, Arabic, Persian, Music and nine Special School Teacher categories) and 439 Class 11โ€“12 posts (Bangla, Bhojpuri, Magahi, Maithili, Pali, Prakrit, Arabic and Persian). The total is now 33,320.
  • The written exam (PT) date is still not confirmed. BPSC says it will be published after the advertisement period.

Salary & Work Profile

Class group Post (as per advertisement) Pay (as per advertisement)

Class 6โ€“8 School Teacher, Graduate grade (non-gazetted) Initial pay ₹28,000 plus allowances fixed by the State Government

The advertisement gives only the starting/basic pay. It does not state an in-hand amount. The retirement age is 60 years.

Career Growth & Work Profile

The work differs a lot by class group. A Class 1โ€“5 teacher teaches all the basic subjects to young children, so classroom management, foundational reading and arithmetic, and close contact with parents matter most. A Class 6โ€“8 teacher is appointed for a subject group (Maths & Science, Social Science, or a language) and has to plan lessons across several related subjects. Class 9โ€“10 teachers teach one subject to board-exam classes, so subject depth, assessment and preparing students for the Class 10 board matter more. Class 11โ€“12 teachers teach a single specialised subject at postgraduate level, guide students on stream choices and prepare them for the Class 12 board. Every level also involves school duties such as attendance, examinations and student mentoring. The advertisement does not describe promotion timelines, so none are given here.

Historical TRE Context / Cut-Off Approach

There is no TRE 4.0 cut-off yet. What the advertisement does fix is the minimum qualifying mark in the written exam: 40% for General, 36.5% for BC, 34% for EBC, and 32% for SC/ST, women and PwD candidates (the 32% for women and PwD applies only to Bihar domicile candidates). Merit in TRE is prepared class-group wise and subject wise, so the marks needed for a seat depend on your class group, subject and category, and on how many posts and candidates there are in each. The vacancy mix, paper rules and candidate pool change from one TRE cycle to the next. Treat any figure from an earlier TRE only as rough context, never as the TRE 4.0 cut-off.

Post-Specific Selection Nuances

  • Eligibility differs by class group and subject. Class 1โ€“5 needs D.El.Ed (or equivalent) with CTET/BTET Paper-I; Class 6โ€“8 needs CTET/BTET Paper-II; Class 9โ€“10 needs STET Paper-I; Class 11โ€“12 needs STET Paper-II.
  • One subject only: you can choose only one subject, the one in which you passed the teacher eligibility test.
  • Priority order is binding: once you qualify for your highest-priority class group, you are not considered for the lower ones. If you give no priority, the result is published only for the higher post.
  • Negative marking: 1/3 mark is deducted for every wrong answer, and also for every question where none of the five options (A to E) is marked. Option E means “not attempting”.
  • Language part is qualifying: at least 30% is compulsory in Part I (Language). The language you choose applies to all class groups you apply for.
  • Merit: for Class 1โ€“5 merit is based on Part II marks; for Class 6โ€“12 on the total of Part II and Part III marks.
  • Guest teachers: guest teachers engaged under the Education Department resolution of 25.01.2018 who hold the qualification for Higher Secondary teacher get 5 bonus marks per year of service (maximum 25), added only after they score the minimum qualifying marks. This is subject to the outcome of LPA No. 593/2024.
  • Reservation, women’s and PwD horizontal reservation and the 32% qualifying mark are only for Bihar domicile candidates. Candidates from outside Bihar do not get reservation benefits, and for them the CTET/STET pass mark is the General-category mark (60%).
  • 40% Bihar schooling quota: 40% of posts are to be filled by candidates who passed Matric or Intermediate from educational institutions in Bihar. Unfilled seats from this 40% go to the remaining 60% pool.
  • A large total does not mean every subject has many seats. Some subjects have very few posts (for example Class 9โ€“10 Music in the main list has 2), so check the subject-wise table before choosing.
  • Maximum 5 attempts: a candidate can take the school teacher exam a maximum of 5 times under the 2024 amendment rules.

Documents to Keep Ready

BPSC may ask for the originals of these at any time, and claims in the application are verified by the Education Department before appointment:

  • Matriculation certificate (proof of date of birth).
  • Educational and professional (training) qualification certificates and marksheets.
  • CTET/BTET/STET pass certificate and marksheet (STET 2026 appearing candidates: admit card, result and the self-declaration form).
  • Caste certificate and permanent residence certificate (SC/ST); non-creamy layer certificate (BC/EBC); EWS income and asset certificate in the prescribed format. Married women’s certificates must be issued in the father’s name and address.
  • Permanent residence certificate in the father’s name (Bihar domicile unreserved women).
  • Disability certificate in the prescribed format (PwD); scribe documents if required.
  • Freedom fighter grandchild certificate signed by the District Magistrate or authorised officer, transgender certificate, ex-serviceman or government servant certificates for age relaxation, as applicable.
  • RCI CRR number certificate and 6-month cross-disability training certificate (Special School Teacher).
  • Experience certificate and appointment letter from the District Education Officer (guest teachers claiming bonus marks).
  • No Objection Certificate if you are employed under the Central/State Government.
  • Photo identity card, 4 recent passport-size photos, printout of the online application and later the e-admit card.

All certificates must be issued on or before 26.10.2026, the last date of application. Certificates issued later are not accepted, even if the application date is extended.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Using the old Advt. No. 14/2026 dates (01.09.2026 to 30.09.2026). That advertisement is cancelled.
  • Skipping the new OTR. Even candidates who registered on the old portal must complete OTR again on bpsconline.bihar.gov.in.
  • Choosing a subject in which you have not passed the teacher eligibility test.
  • Giving the class-group priority order carelessly. You cannot be considered for a lower group once you qualify in a higher one.
  • Paying the fee and not clicking Final Submit. Without final submission the application is not complete.
  • Entering details that do not match your certificates. Name, parents’ names, gender, Aadhaar and date of birth cannot be changed after OTR, and the application cannot be edited after submission.
  • Not entering Aadhaar. Candidates without an Aadhaar number in the application pay an extra ₹200 biometric fee.
  • Getting caste, EWS or residence certificates in the husband’s name. For married women they must be in the father’s name and address.
  • Waiting for the last day. BPSC is not responsible for internet or bank problems.
  • Guessing randomly in the exam. Wrong answers and unmarked questions both lose 1/3 mark.
