| Category | Fee | Refund after attending the CBT |
|---|---|---|
| All candidates except those below | Rs 500 | Rs 400, less bank charges |
| Female / Transgender / Ex-Servicemen / SC / ST / Minority / eligible EBC | Rs 250 | Rs 250, less bank charges |
Payment is online only (internet banking, debit/credit card or UPI). EBC means annual family income below Rs 50,000 under the CEN; it gives fee concession, not job reservation, and is different from OBC and EWS. The required proof must exist by the closing date. Refunds need a valid, operational Aadhaar-seeded bank account (paragraph 10.3 allows a permitted family member’s account). Incomplete, unsubmitted or rejected applications get no refund.
- CBT: 100 questions, 120 minutes, 1/3 negative marking; qualifying marks UR/EWS 40%, OBC-NCL/SC 30%, ST 25%.
- CBAT: about 8 times the RRB-wise vacancies, community-wise; minimum T-score 42 in every battery, no relaxation, no negative marking; original vision certificate required.
- Document verification: candidates equal to the vacancies, by merit (70% CBT + 30% CBAT) and railway options.
- Medical examination (A-2) and character checks.
- Read the detailed CEN 08/2026, the corrected vacancy total and the medical conditions before selecting an RRB.
- Open rrbapply.gov.in through the official RRB entry. Reuse an account created for the 2024/2025/2026 CENs; otherwise create an account with an active personal mobile number and email.
- Complete identity verification and all required details, capture the live photograph, upload a compliant signature and applicable certificates, pay online, submit and keep the registration number and confirmation.
One RRB Rule
Submit only one application to one RRB. Multiple applications risk rejection and debarment. The chosen RRB and Create an Account details cannot be modified. Other permitted changes cost Rs 250 per occasion (non-refundable); leaving a fee-concession category may also require the fee difference.
Upload requirements
- Live photograph: captured through the application, plain white background, face fully visible, no cap, mask or glasses (paragraph 16.5).
- Signature: black ink on white paper, running handwriting, JPG/JPEG, 30–49 KB, at least 140 × 60 pixels, scanned at 100 DPI or more.
- SC/ST certificate (for the free train travel pass): PDF, less than 400 KB.
- Proof of the present address entered in the form is required at document verification.

Planning to apply for a Station Master post? Check the A-2 medical requirements and choose your RRB carefully before submitting. This is a separate CEN 08/2026 recruitment, with a single CBT followed by CBAT, document verification and medical examination. Graduation must be completed by the closing date, and the normal age range is 20–33 years as on 1 January 2027, with the notified concessions.

Fee Date Clarification
The Important Dates table (printed page 3) and FAQ Q3 both give 27 November 2026 as the last date for fee payment for submitted applications. Paragraph 19.6 of the CEN refers to 25 November 2026 in the same sentence that gives the 28 November–7 December modification period. Where possible, pay the fee when you submit by 25 November, and follow any later official correction or portal instruction. The 27 November date is for fee payment only; it is not an extension of the application deadline.
Medical Requirements
Station Master needs medical standard A-2: distant vision 6/9, 6/9 without glasses; near vision Sn 0.6, 0.6 without glasses; and the prescribed colour vision, binocular vision, night vision and myopic vision tests. Paragraph 6 of the CEN says this standard is indicative, not exhaustive. As a general rule, candidates who have had LASIK or any other surgery to correct refractive error are not eligible; separate ex-servicemen standards and Annexures VI A/VI C apply. A candidate who fails the required medical standard gets no alternative post. Annexure A marks the listed PwBD suitability categories as “No” for this post.
CBAT Vision Certificate
All candidates must bring the prescribed original vision certificate (Annexure VI; ex-servicemen use Annexure VI A) to the CBAT; without it they are not allowed to appear. FAQ Q66 describes the online Self-Screening Medical Declaration and its generated report: the certificate must be signed by a General Physician and an Eye Specialist from a Central/State Government hospital or medical college.
Selection and Exam Pattern
The CBT has 100 questions in 120 minutes, with one-third mark deducted for each wrong answer. Scores of multiple shifts are normalised. Minimum qualifying marks: UR/EWS 40%, OBC-NCL/SC 30%, ST 25% — these are qualifying thresholds, not predicted cut-offs.
| Section | Indicative questions and marks |
|---|---|
| Basic Science, Mathematical and Analytical Capability | 60 (Basic Science & Mathematics 30; Data Analysis & Interpretation 30) |
| Logical Capability | 20 (includes English Reading Comprehension) |
| Mental Reasoning | 20 |
| Total | 100 questions, 120 minutes |
English Comprehension
Reading Comprehension passages are given in English as part of Logical Capability. The pattern is new for this post and is not the NTPC General Awareness pattern.
CBAT shortlisting is normally 8 times the RRB-wise vacancies, community-wise. CBAT questions and options are in English and Hindi; every battery needs a T-score of at least 42, with no category relaxation and no negative marking. Final merit among CBAT-qualified candidates uses 70% CBT and 30% CBAT. Candidates equal to the vacancies are called for document verification according to merit and railway options. Ties are broken by age (older first), then alphabetical order of the given name. RRB recommends candidates; the Railway Administration offers appointment.
RRB-wise Vacancy Highlights
Largest combined RRB totals: Mumbai 177, Jammu-Srinagar 122, Chennai 119, Thiruvananthapuram 114 and Prayagraj 112. Ajmer has 61 across NWR and WCR. Railway-zone rows under one RRB are not separate applications. The full table is in the Vacancy Details tab; ExSM figures are included in the totals, not additional seats.
Not Part of NTPC
Station Master is a separate recruitment under CEN 08/2026. It is not part of RRB NTPC Graduate (CEN 06/2026) or RRB NTPC Undergraduate (CEN 07/2026), and the older NTPC CEN 06/2025 result does not apply to it.
Preparation and Work Profile
Build practice around the new syllabus: arithmetic and basic science, interpreting tables and charts, logical puzzles, English comprehension and mental reasoning. For CBAT familiarisation, use the RDSO psychology candidate’s corner (RDSO → Verticals → Traffic and Psychology). The RRB ALP preparation guide also explains how CBAT batteries work. Station Master is an operational railway role that needs medical suitability; the CEN does not promise a home-state posting, take-home pay, promotion timeline or cut-off.
Track all railway dates on the exam calendar.
